So the Next Generation May Know

There are so many ways to study God’s Word. We live in a blessed generation with a variety of options at our fingertips. There are apps for phones, free computer programs, and old-fashioned pen-and-paper methods. A quick computer search offers hundreds of companies that create Bible studies and journals.

If you have not found a way to make Bible reading or study a daily part of your routine, now is a wonderful time to try. There is no reason to wait until January 1! In fact, by starting now, a habit could be formed and 2025 could literally become a new chapter of your spiritual life.

Because God’s Word is not like any other book, the impact of reading it reaches well beyond the life of just the one reading. For the person who not only reads but also yields to God’s ways, the ripples of obedience could change generations. Perhaps you already know this impact because you had a grandparent or parent who prayed and encouraged you. God promises that His Word will not return void (empty, useless). Because of this promise, the blessings that come from reading His Word are a foregone conclusion!

For as the rain cometh down,
and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither,
but watereth the earth,
and maketh it bring forth and bud,
that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater:
So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth:
it shall not return unto me void,
but it shall accomplish that which I please,
and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

Isaiah 55:10-11

After a dear friend’s mother passed away, her devotional journal was found and became a tremendous comfort and encouragement to my friend. Insights into her mother’s walk with God as well as family situations where the Lord intervened were preserved into a cherished piece of family history. Sometimes this happens through notes and highlights in a well-worn Bible, but how much more in a dedicated journal?

For me, Scripture journaling has become my favorite routine in the early hours of the morning. In fact, I probably have ten journals from as many years full of those reflections. This year, rather than order the same journal I have used for nearly a decade, I decided to create my own with a pretty cover that could be either paperback or a more durable hardback. Amazon has a great tool for self-publishers that is streamlined and affordable. I created two, larger 8.5×11 versions, one that is fully lined with plenty of writing space and one that has an unlined column for illustrations or other options. I also made a smaller 6×9 version with just the lined column on the left and an unlined notes section on the right. The paperback and hardback options all have different covers to give some variety. Each option’s description should say which page it contains and the size to avoid confusion.

However, if you would like to print your own pages to put in a pretty notebook, I will make the pages available in PDF to download for free below. They will print in the 8.5×11 size.

For the Amazon products, the easiest way to see them all is through my author page.

  1. When I started journaling my reflections after my Bible study in the morning, I felt like I got more from my reading/studying. It’s something I highly recommend to others when questioned about how to start studying the Bible. I don’t know if future generations would glean anything from my notebooks, but it would definitely show my love for the Lord. That is probably enough! 💗
