Intentionally Thinking on Jesus

Do your thoughts ever seem to get locked in the negative? Critical, anxious, painful thoughts that swirl over and over in your mind? It takes intentionality to redirect those thought patterns.

I was listening to a podcast about a woman who lost her daughter as a teenager. She and her family knew the Lord, but the woman relayed her struggle not to sink deep into the grief that threatened to swallow her. She made it a point to turn her thoughts toward an alphabetical list of attributes of Jesus. It did not make the grief disappear but it lessened its painful grip over time.

As I considered her story, I realized how Philippians 4:8 fits Jesus perfectly. Because He meets us where we are and knows exactly how to comfort us, there is no better place to turn our minds to than Him.

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
Philippians 4:8

If you want a headstart with some Scriptures attached to each letter, I made a printable. It would be a great help to write each Scripture out somewhere and meditate on it. If you make your own, I would love to see it!
