One Generation to the Next

A parade of green marched along the crosswalk as people celebrated the Irish holiday of St. Patrick’s Day. Luck, Leprechauns, and Liquor mark this day, but St. Patrick was a missionary to Ireland. He brought the Gospel of Jesus to a land filled with superstition and witchcraft. (Read more here.) The traditions that have been passed down really have no bearing on the truth. Somewhere along the way, one generation stopped sharing St. Patrick’s testimony with the next one, until his name became unrecognizable for that which he stood.

One generation shall praise thy works to another,
and shall declare thy mighty acts. Psalm 145:4.

The same will happen to our children if we stop telling them about the things God has done in our lives. How will it become personal to them if we stop making it personal to ourselves? Will God become relegated to only certain holidays like Christmas and Easter, with no value in between?

I wrote this testimony out this morning, and I hope it spurs you to consider what great things God has done in your life so that you can relay these things to your children.

God, You have been my rescue, a Father to the fatherless. You are my expectation, my hope, my grace in deep weariness, my love when human love fails. You are my salvation, my help in helplessness, my refuge in fear, my calm in anxiety, my counselor, my stay, and my rock of support. You are my Friend when I feel alone, my Creator who plans with purpose, my source of wisdom, and my place of mercy in deep despair. You are my rest in chaos, my direction when I lose my way, and my comfort in life’s sorrows. You are a God who knows, who sees, who hears, and who cares. May my children know you to an even greater degree than I do. Thank you for who You are, Jesus. Amen.

May St. Patrick’s Day be a day of testimony, to share the great things God has done with the next generation!

Have a blessed Sunday!

  1. It is a sobering truth. The Lord commanded Israel to remember His blessings, and I know this is how we can show to our family and friends how the Lord’s hand is evident in our lives. A personal Savior is what we have and is what we need to show.💗
