Apathy

When Jesus said

That the love of many

Would wax cold.

I did not know

It would be my heart.

I did not know

That I could look

At human need

And just walk away.

I did not know

That dying souls

Looked like hopelessness,

And how easy it would be,

To turn my face away.

So, Lord, You have to start somewhere.

Help me to care that I don’t care.

And then, let the love that saved me,

Reach out to rescue another.

  1. I appreciated your thoughts! Thanks for sharing!  Our minds were running along similar paths this morning.  Today, right off I was struck by Phil. 4:9,”T hose things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.”   The words, “Seen in me” really popped out to me. Then in a bit, I read this in Streams in the Desert:  If peace be in your heart,                The wildest winter storm is full of solemn beauty,                The midnight flash but shows your path of duty,                Every living creature tells some new and joyous story,                    The very trees and stones all catch a ray of glory,                        If peace  be in your heart. I was struck by “every living creature tells some…story” Then, I read your thoughts about caring about the lost-so I’m meditating on what story do others see in me? I can’t help but remember that when I first got to Taiwan as a missionary, one day I went to the beauty shop where I usually went. The girls told me as they were working on my hair, “We saw you driving the other day, and you were really mad!”  They were right and I was so embarrassed that this is what they saw in me, the Christian missionary.  I could excuse myself and say that traffic in Taipei was enough to make one upset, but  I won’t.  But the incident has stuck with me, and  so… Do I care enough to let/make sure that the lost see Jesus in me?
