One of my classes required me to read a book that is out of print, but well worth reading—“Effective Prayer” by J. Oswald Sanders. It has encouraged, convicted, challenged, and instructed me on the topic of prayer. Because of its influence, prayer was the subject of one of the classes I taught this week, which spurred a compilation of as many passages on prayer as I had time to copy and paste. Along with it, on the last page are some quotes on prayer that I will copy here as well. I believe I can offer the pdf of Sander’s book since it is no longer in print. I will also include the compilation of verses and quotes for you to download. I pray both encourage you this week and far into the future.
Quotes About Prayer:
“Satan dreads nothing but prayer. His one concern is to keep the saints from praying. He fears nothing from prayerless studies, prayerless work, prayerless religion. He laughs at our toil, mocks our wisdom, but trembles when we pray.” –Samuel Chadwick
“God delights to respond to daring prayer. He responded to the audacity of the Syrophenician woman though her prayer had no right of claim. He encourages us to ask as freely for the impossible as for the possible, since to Him all difficulties are the same size—less than Himself.” –J. Oswald Sanders, Effective Prayer
“The purpose of prayer is to reveal the presence of God equally present at all times and in every condition.” –Oswald Chambers, If You Will Ask
“It is not so true that ‘Prayer changes things’ as that prayer changes us, and then we change things.” –Oswald Chambers, If You Will Ask
“Any burden too small to be turned into a prayer is too small to be made into a burden.” –Corrie Ten Boom
“Prayers outlive the lives of those who uttered them; outlive a generation, outlive an age, outlive a world.” E. M. Bounds
“Prayer lays hold of God’s plan and becomes the link between his will and its accomplishment on earth. Amazing things happen, and we are given the privilege of being the channels of the Holy Spirit’s prayer.” – Elisabeth Elliot
“Prayer should not be regarded as a duty which must be performed, but rather as a privilege to be enjoyed, a rare delight that is always revealing some new beauty.” – E.M. Bounds
“You can do more than pray after you have prayed, but you cannot do more than pray until you have prayed.”-S.D. Gordon
“Do not pray for easy lives. Pray to be stronger men. Do not pray for tasks equal to your powers pray for powers equal to your task.” -Phillips Brooks
“Little of the Word with little prayer is death to the spiritual life. Much of the Word with little prayer gives a sickly life. Much prayer with little of the Word gives more life, but without steadfastness. A full measure of the Word and prayer each day gives a healthy and powerful life.” -Andrew Murray
“Notice, we never pray for folks we gossip about, and we never gossip about the folks for whom we pray! For prayer is a great deterrent.” -Leonard Ravenhill
“God never gives us discernment in order that we may criticize, but that we may intercede.” -Oswald Chambers
Keep calm and pray on, my friends!

I appreciate all the quotes and recognize many that I have saved. I have a huge Word document on prayer with all kinds of thoughts and verses I’ve collected for quite a while. Maybe one day I will put something together. It’s such a simple act, and yet I feel there’s so much too it in many ways as well. I guess it’s like salvation – simple yet so extensive in what happens after salvation.

There is something about reading them back to back that spurs on the prayer life. I have been so thankful to have them all in one place. Looking forward to someday seeing how you use your compilation!
