The Highs and Lows

Jesus had just heard His Father’s Words praise Him audibly.

And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Matthew 3:17

Immediately after those words of praise, the Spirit led Jesus into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. Matthew 4:1

There are many highs and lows recorded in Jesus’ ministry. Immediately after the Transfiguration, He rejoins the other disciples just in time to hear of their inability to cast out the demon from the boy brought to them. (Matthew 17)

Then there are the “Hosannas” of Palm Sunday to the screams of “Crucify Him” just a few days later. (Mark 11, 15)

The highs and lows of life were not absent in the life of Jesus, and they will not be absent in the lives of His followers either.

Just as Jesus addressed Satan’s temptations with “It is written,” His followers can walk through the lows in the same way. His Words have never gone unfulfilled, and they will not be discarded now.  We can intentionally choose verses to defy the darkness, and repeat them out loud.

“It is written.”

Not so very long ago, His voice was sharp and clear.

Now the demons beckon, tempting to despair.

Instead, I call to mind the sweet words He spoke to me.

They are written in His pages, preserved eternally.

I will never leave you; My Presence lingers here.

My Power reigns forever; you need not ever fear.

My Staff will ever lead you; My hand always provides.

Though grief walks beside you, I will never leave your side.

No prayer, my child, goes unheard, no tear escapes My cup.

Lean in when you can stand no more, I will hold you up.

From valley low to highest peak, until the sunset fades,

You will find that through it all, I will always be Enough.

Whether you are walking in a high or low time, I pray that His Word is your ever close companion. If you need some of those promises at your fingertips, I have a downloadable pdf in this post. https://hissonginthenight.com/2023/03/23/the-promises-of-god/

Have a blessed day!
