An Unceasing Melody: The Song of Prayer

“You can do more than pray after you have prayed; but you can never do more than pray until you have prayed.” A.J. Gordon

I am so excited to share this prayer journal download with you, that I could not wait until after Christmas. I have been working hard to get it ready for the New Year, and I do pray it will be a blessing to you. If it is helpful to you, or if you have any requests for future printables, please let me know. Also, if you would rather have something on your phone, my friend at “My Portion in this Life” wrote a blog post about her favorite prayer app. You can check it out here.

There are so many more pages that I could add to this journal, but part of the joy of praying is finding Scripture to incorporate into your requests. God is keeper of His promises and wants us to bring our requests before Him according to His will. As you read the Psalms, you will find new ways to praise God! As you read the Epistles, you will find the prayers that Paul prayed for the churches to be just as relevant and needful for your husband or children or friends. Almost anywhere you read in God’s Word will have something to incorporate into your prayer life!

Here are a few of my favorite verses on prayer to get you started. Also, there are a few of my favorite quotes!

Verses on Prayer

Jeremiah 33:3

Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.

Matthew 6:6

But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

Matthew 7:7-8

Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

James 1:5-8

If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

Psalms 34:17-19

The righteous cry, and the Lord heareth,

and delivereth them out of all their troubles.

The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart;

and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.

Many are the afflictions of the righteous:

but the Lord delivereth him out of them all.

Psalms 145:18-19

The Lord is nigh unto all them that call upon him,

to all that call upon him in truth.

He will fulfil the desire of them that fear him:

he also will hear their cry, and will save them.

Hebrews 4:16

Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

1 Peter 3:12

For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.

Psalms 5:3

My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O Lord;

in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.

Matthew 7:11

If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?

Quotes on Prayer

The way to worry about nothing is to pray about everything.  Elisabeth George

Walking with God is the best way to know the mind of God; friends who walk together impart their secrets one to another.  Thomas Watson
